VTA Focus on Careers in T&L

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) is continuing to work hard on the objective of raising the image of the Transport & Logistics Industry, and promoting careers and training opportunities in the industry.

The VTA have on several occasions had the opportunity to influence the media to produce television stories related to the shortage of truck drivers and the attraction of women to the profession of truck driving.

In addition, the VTA has been supporting a series of careers days and other initiatives across Victoria aimed at attracting the right people to the industry, particularly youth.

Work has also commenced on analyzing ways to better align the Australian vocational training competency standards with truck driver licensing requirements. This is a really important and urgent task in view of the changing policy settings at a national and state level on the future of truck driver licensing and vocational training standards.

The VTA will be liaising with its counterpart associations, with the TWU, and with governments through such consultative forums as:

  • Victorian T&L Careers & Recruitment Partner Reference Group (under the Victorian T&L Industry Round Table (IRT) consultative mechanisms);
  • Transport, Distribution Training (TDT) Victoria
  • Transport & Logistics Industry Skills Council (T&LISC)
  • Australian Trucking Association's (ATA) Careers & Training "Key Results Area" (KRA) Committee
  • Australian Logistics Council's (ALC) T&L Careers & Education Working Group
