Improving Safety in the Transport Industry


Safety Assist is sponsored by WorkSafe Victoria and is supported by the Transport Workers Union and the Victorian Transport Association.

The project aims to reduce the incidents and severity of workplace injuries, specifically those arising from manual handling and loading/unloading activities in the Short Distance Road Freight industry.

The project will:

  • Develop, design and engineer solutions for manual handling, slips and fall risk problems
  • Share solutions across the industry
  • Develop policies and procedures with employers and clients, including government agencies, to address chain of responsibility obligations
  • Ensure access to materials to support the improvements in OHS
  • Improve competence in managing OHS across the industry
