Technology Group


Background

In response to the avalanche of new technology available to freight operators, the VTA has formed a technology group to both de-mystify new technology and what it has to offer, but also to provide advocacy in the way technology can be used to the freight sectors advantage.

Technology Group Meetings

The Technology Group's first meeting was held on 22nd June and chaired by Peter Bentley, COO of EastLink. The first meeting covered several items including:

  • Technology Survey - what does that tell us?
  • Technology Agenda - top ten issues to drive productivity and safety in our businesses
  • Electronic Work Diaries - what can they do that paper based log books cant?
  • Freight Week Technology Day - what do you want to see?

An industry Technology Survey for Truck Operators was conducted by the VTA in May 2009 to gather information relating to the freight industry and their stance on technology.

Freight Technology Day at Freight Week

The Technology Day at Freight Week will provide information on the technological improvements that companies can make to improve their bottom line. Truck navigation systems, on board telematics, electronic work diaries and others can save companies time and money and allow for a more direct management of the business. It is not just the large companies who need to keep up to date with technology; it is the smaller companies who can really achieve positive outcomes. The Technology Day will also feature workshop discussions on Higher Productivity Vehicles, Industry needs and issues driving businesses.
