Interested operators can learn more below and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in this trial.

About the Trial

The Victorian Electric Heavy Vehicle Trial (VEHVT) is a practical, industry-led initiative supporting the transition to zero-emission freight in Victoria. Delivered by the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) in partnership with government and industry, the trial provides selected freight operators with the opportunity to trial electric heavy vehicles (EVHVs) in real-world operations at no cost.

The program supports the Victorian Government’s Freight Plan 2025–2030: Victoria Delivers and aims to help businesses better understand how electric heavy vehicles can operate within their existing fleets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I have a vehicle in my business?

The VTA is flexible, however participants are expected to commit to a minimum trial period of one month. Where possible, longer trial periods of two to three months are encouraged to maximise the value of the experience.

What can I use the vehicle for?

The vehicle should be used in your normal day-to-day operations. We are looking for businesses that can deploy the vehicle consistently in real freight tasks.

Who can apply?

Any legitimate freight or logistics operator can apply. You must have an active ABN and hold all relevant registrations, licences, accreditations, and insurances required to operate.

Do I need to provide a driver?

Yes. You will need to nominate a suitably licensed and competent driver.
Where possible, it is preferred that the same driver operates the vehicle throughout the trial.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. The vehicle is provided at no cost for the duration of the trial.
Participants are responsible for normal operational costs within their business (e.g. drivers, energy, insurance).

Do I need to insure the vehicle?

Yes. You will be required to include the trial vehicle under your existing insurance policy for the duration of the trial.

Do I need charging infrastructure?

You will need access to suitable charging.  This may already be in place, or you may be able to work with the project team to establish a suitable solution.

Do I need to have a suitable depot?

Yes. You will need secure off-street parking for the vehicle during the trial.
A site check will be conducted if you are shortlisted for the Trial.
